I think it may depend upon your environment. In my world, servers are
moving away from more expensive pre-written middleware applications to Open
Source scripted apps. Thing is, with all the libraries available in Perl,
and the growing PHP classes and libraries, I have never been presented with
a single good reason to use ASP or Cold Fusion. I have my own Perl
libraries for common MySQL interaction events, and an XML parser for turning
XML configuration files into Perl variables, and a.pl with commonly needed
form-handling routines. Much of the foundation for a new project is in my
own libraries, or at CPAN.
Of course, I enjoy programing, and, even beardless, find it easy...:)
