Virginia,

Take a look at http://www.hostfacts.com/scripts/ and the SFE Search. It's
actually the script that a lot of hosts offer their clients as "free scripts
for your web site!"

The index.cgi runs though your site and indexes the words in your site, but
we didn't exactly do it that way <eg>. Once we ran index.cgi on a handful
of select pages and got the rudimentary structure out of the way, we dropped
in our own search words. The index file is basically a flat database, so
depending on your database, you might be able to make use of this script.

Both the input and the output can be customized to fit nicely into your
page. If you want to do extensive "fitting in", though, a little Perl
knowledge comes in handy, but is not necessary.

Take a look, it might be something you can use.
