Emily, and other people I p****ed off,
I'm sorry if I came across as arrogant - from your (Emily's) description, it
sounds as if you have found a good solution that supports your users - which
is the whole point of the exercise.
It's always difficult to formulate precise rules that work in all
circumstances, which is why any usability rules must be tempered by the
needs of the target user. If they are inexperienced at using web forms and
need assistance or some variation to the normal model of form submission,
then it is stupid to say "I won't do this because it will be against the
normal rule".
I wasn't making any comments on your site at all - KJs list of annoyances I
took as a starting point of some of the things that I dislike personally. I
am not, and would not claim to be, a guru like Jakob Neilsen <G> - though
the $$s would be nice.
And yes, I have been reprimanded for ignoring the rules about mentioning
sites in a derogatory way - so will watch my spleen in future.
Kind regards,
Lois Wakeman
