Photoshop book recommendations?

Can anybody recommend a teach yourself photoshop book? (The two things I'm
wondering about at the moment are what all those slide things on the filters
are actually doing, and why layers are not quite behaving like I expect them
too, so we're talking pretty basic here!!).
