Tim,

Interesting question. I understand that some SEs regard instantaneous
redirects to be a spam attempt, but I've never thought of this situation -
the redirection is done by the server before the user agent sees a page, so
my uninformed guess is that you have nowt to fear. Have you tried asking
Danny Sullivan what he thinks - he's usually pretty good about answering
sensible questions.

And as belt and braces, resubmit the new page to the big 6/10 or how ever
many it is today.
