* Tracking return visits/frequency in a server log (altho not necessary if
IP tracking is used, it could track a user's visits via a cookied session
ID)?
* Tracking what ads have been viewed?
* Tracking anything that has to do with a unique user surfing from a given
machine...??
These are guesses, as I have never used a cookie for anything but session ID
for forms...:)

Subject: Cookies without forms?
Disclosure: I'm asking this for my work on the Adobe GoLive 5 Bible.
However, I promise no words used in responses will be used without express
written permission. I am asking the following question in order to ascertain
where in my book to write up cookies.
What I'm wondering is whether there is any actual, real-life use for cookies
used without a form of any kind. In other words, I can think of a bunch of
ways to use cookies in conjunction with forms. But, without first using a
form to get information such as even just a first name, you cannot use a
cookie to create a Welcome Back YourNameHere page. You can use a cookie to
track a session for a shopping experience without having anything but the
incoming IP number, but again, the shopping part uses a form. So, is there
any real way to use a cookie without using a form?
