dHTML for image movement L->R across page

Does anyone have any cross-browser dHTML code for making an image go
from left to right across the bottom of the page?

Someone asked for an animation - I think the .gif would be too jerky &
large (kB) and I don't have Flash, so dHTML seemed the best option under
the circumstances.

BTW, if there is anyway of clipping the image so it starts to appear
from behind a left-hand border, that would be perfect    :-)
