This (below, original message) sizing causes some Mac users problems,
especially when their default is low-to-medium.
We've adopted ems as a result. Unfortunately, anything below .9ems is
considered small by the people who Mac test for us, and .7 might as well be
a line for all the readalbility it offers.
Because of this, and since we are producing so many dynamic sites this year,
we are adopting OS detection and will deliver the style sheet based on OS as
well as browser.

you are correct in both cases. w3C has deprecated all forms of font
tags in the HTML in favor of style sheets.
as for those who discuss sizing... i am in favor of relative sizing
myself and leaving the base size to the browser default. so i use
xx-small | x-small | small | medium | large | x-large | xx-large to get
the desired effect and it always works of the users default. so it is
never too small for the people who need larger fonts and the relative
effects remain.
