Hi Nate,
Anything requiring other than simple styles in NS4.n is, as you have
discovered, nigh-on impossible. I looked at your trial pages in IE4, and the
two sets of links are rather confusing - which works depends on what button
you have selected.
If you used frames, you'd need to go for pixel-precision to get backgrounds
to line up - again, this will be pretty tricky for cross-browser use.
Iframes would be good, but only in IE and Opera 5 (?NS6?) now, so no use
either.
The only really cross-browser solution I have found is to use a Java applet
(examples at
http://www.sygem.com/JazzNews/
http://www.modernminds.com/
http://www.javaroom.com/applets/headscroll1.htm
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Code/9129/applet/scrollapplet/
for example)
- but I am not sure how you would integrate these with buttons as most of
them work in a single page. And again you are relying on Java support for
it to work.
Kind regards,
Lois Wakeman
