seamless images using tables

i have recently created 2 images which i wish to view as one image using two
table cells.
The first image seems to have whitespace between itself and the second image
in the row beneath it.  I have set the cell border and cell padding to zero
in both cells and rows, but still i get this annoying whitespace gap between
the 2 cells.  Both images are JPG created using Photoshop 5 and i cant see
any whitespace as part of the image.  I have also taken the img border off
both images.  Can anyone suggest why this is happening?
