Most scripting and programming applications are applied at the server before 
the page is delivered to the browser. Commonly used examples include PHP, 
Perl, ASP and Cold Fusion. Instructions in these languages will be processed 
before the final HTML document is sent from the server to the client.

As a complete novice to what you are saying, what sort of stuff is that
90%? I [perhaps naively] thought that a web page was a web page, of
course some have Java or such, but in generoa what is seen is what is on
the page. Of course, if what you mean is the maintainence of the server
than maybe I  understand.
