I'm not an expert in absolute placement but I think that this is it.
.service { position: absolute: top: 280; left: 615 }
You have a : after absolute instead of a ;

Subject: CSS
| Hi, all;
| First time around (of course) with CSS. I have this strange little quirk
in
| the display of my code. One element, the word *service*, with it's
| attendant gif (a line) do not abide by the rules of placement: they appear
| at the top left-hand corner in both IE5.x and NN4.x. I have tried numerous
| attempts to correct this malady. Your help would be appreciated. TIA.
