All agreed. However, as browsers become more able to support the .png format
there will probably be a large number of huge image files being uploaded to
websites. The problem is that while Fireworks saves it's files using the
.png format, it includes much more information in the file than is necessary
for web graphics (the history information, styles used, etc). Fireworks also
enables you to export an image in the .png8, 24 and 32 formats.
As a test I made a small graphic using just some text and a couple of shapes
in the background, and tried exporting it in the various formats. .png8 was
1.48kb, .png24 was 2.70kb and .png32 was 2.87kb. The Fireworks file saved as
a .png was 30.60kb. I have already seen a number of requests from people
asking why their pages are so slow where they have used the .png save files
on their sites - these can easily be several hundred kb each. Perhaps MM do
need a proprietary format for Fireworks to save in.
