CSS Background

I've finally broken down and started using external .css (old dog - new
tricks).
Problem is, I can't find out how to get a background image to work as
opposed to bgcolor.
( BODY {background: bg1.gif; color:#000000; margin:.03in .10in .10in;} )
 I sure would appreciate some help.
