Toggling text in fixed div position

Just a quicky. Is there any way to put text in an array and have the text in
a style placed <div> grab take the text straight for the array onMouseover
and wack into the div. I suppose I'm looking for a text object that is
created when you put text inside a div.

At the moment I'm just toggling z-indexes of divs with the same location and
dimensions - works fine but looking for less verbose technique.
