Doubleclick uses cookies without forms-they can tell who is going where that way.  Not that I'd condone such use.

Disclosure: I'm asking this for my work on the Adobe GoLive 5 Bible.
However, I promise no words used in responses will be used without express
written permission. I am asking the following question in order to ascertain
where in my book to write up cookies.

What I'm wondering is whether there is any actual, real-life use for cookies
used without a form of any kind. In other words, I can think of a bunch of
ways to use cookies in conjunction with forms. But, without first using a
form to get information such as even just a first name, you cannot use a
cookie to create a Welcome Back YourNameHere page. You can use a cookie to
track a session for a shopping experience without having anything but the
incoming IP number, but again, the shopping part uses a form. So, is there
any real way to use a cookie without using a form?

Just knowing for a fact, with the collective help of many minds, if there is
or isn't is a huge help. If you happen to say there is a use, and want to
share that use, and if you can legally do so, I'd love to hear and may be
able to state it in the book as how you, by name and site, use it.
