hi jeremy

not too shabby at all, congratulations!!

don't get me wrong, that's a splendid achievement, but now all you have to
worry about is that people who are searching for web site design might type
in "web site design" rather than "website design" because they get a
completely different set of results!!

for those of you who aren't familiar with it, a good search engine to use
if you want to check your rankings is http://ixquick.com

the way this meta engine works, it asks for only the top ten results from
each of the engines it queries

this means you can instantlly see how many engines (it shows one star for
each) rank the site in their top ten for those particular keywords

the other nice thing about ixquick is that because it's only asking for the
top ten from each of the engines it queries, the results are returned a lot
faster

finally, another benefit of this meta engine is that it's great for finding
a site that you *know* is out there

this is different than searching for something to find out *whether* it's
out there, or to get all results, no matter if they're not in the top ten

if you're doing research, you want to find all the sites that may be
related to your search terms, and you'll want to look at them whether or
not they're in the top ten -- so in this case it would be better to use an
engine like http://profusion.com ot http://alltheweb.com

but if you *know* that a particular page is out there, if you've seen it
before and you know what it's about, maybe you just can't remembner the
url, then ixquick is perfect, just enter the words that most closely
describe it, and for sure it'll turn up in one of the engines' top ten

i hope this gives you some ideas to play around with as you design your new
search engine, jeremy

are you going to send out your own spiders or are you going to use an
existing database like http://www.dmoz.org/?
