I fix the text column width for 640x480 then it'll look odd at other
resolutions.  I can't enlarge the images much either, as that would throw
out the design at 640x480.<<<

Even if you design the site for larger resolutions, you should contain the
text within smaller colums, probably using tables with pixel widths or
layers or whatever your preference is.

It is uncomfortable...actually a strain for the human eye...to attempt to
read wide columns of text.  try to keep them under 400 pixels, at least.
