Hi group,
I would like to know if this can be done... it may be simple, but I think it
may actually be trickier than it may appear on the surface...
I need a page to automatically refresh at midnight local time (based on the
system clock). This page is not written in anything but plain (X)HTML (no
ASP/VBScript, JavaScript, PHP, CGI, etc). A meta tag could be used, but my
understanding is that meta refresh tags count down seconds from the last
page refresh, and that is not what quite what I need...
Okay, let me explain:
This page is a Windows ActiveDesktop page, thus it is not being served by a
webhost, nor is PWS/IIS running on this system. It is using MSIE's
desktop-modification handles to literally display a real webpage as the
desktop wallpaper. The purpose of the auto-refreshing at midnight is that I
want to include a rudimentary calendar on the desktop, too... one that
highlights the current date (thus the refresh need at midnight).
Does my explanation make sense? A meta refresh (which is used for another
part of this page) does indeed work, but works on a built-in timer, not on
the system clock. I need for the page to refresh itself on it's own at (or
relatively close to) midnight on the local system, so that the highlighted
date would advance from April 14 to April 15, for example. Can this be done
without server-side languages? Will it require the use of client-side
languages (such as JavaScript)?
Please advise! Thanks in advance,
Kehvan
