This is exactly right: the reputaiotn that IE has in our circles as "too
forgiving" comes from IE 4 and 5's tendancy to overlook missing end tags and
other improper coding.
As of IE 6 and the other newer browsers, NN4 is no longer the best tool to
check code against, as it doesn't even understand a good deal of the code
anymore.

me, there is little forgiving about IE6 in strict mode.
