Okay, my VERY humble opinion:  As a recent learner of HTML who taught
herself using a book and typing into Notepad I was thrilled to when I
discovered PageMill (Until I figured out that the "Mill" stood for they way
it pulverizes your handwritten code into unimaginable documents when you
preview).  My designer brother pointed me to GoLive, which I also thought
was "cool" at first.  Again, I discovered its downsides later.  Finally, I
interviewed some folks doing the work I aspire to and asked them what they
use.  One said Dreamweaver and another said ImageReady (which I haven't
tried and cannot comment on).  The one thing I really appreciate about
Dreamweaver is the visibility issue.  As someone earlier in the thread
pointed out, some people are just visual learners.  I definitely am, I
appreciate that I can have the preview open AND the source at the same time.
Often I use it just to find spots in my code that I want to edit by hand.  I
find it much quicker than reading through all the code - which takes me a
long time; partly because I'm knew to HTML and partly because it takes me a
long time to read and then process and then VISUALIZE what I read.  I
haven't actually tried Homesite, but I have appreciated this thread.  In
fact, this discussion has clued me in on some features that I didn't even
know about!  I hope my post is not just taking space, but helping someone
who is/is not a visual learner make an informed decision.
