I have a site that is rapidly becoming a major point of contact for a
particular group of users. I would like to attach an industry specific
search engine to the site, that not only searches the 650 pages of the site
but also indexes several thousand other sites that I would like to specify
to be included in the search.

I use Atomz and Freefind now, but they only handle my site. Does anyone know
of an engine that will allow me to include information about other sites?
