SPAM is a type of junk mail where everyone except the sender carries the
bulk of the costs.

ISPs and hosts pay for the bandwidth and disk storage, and recipients pay
for the connection time.

SPAM is also different from normal junk mail in that it is easier to send
and therefore (IMO) more voluminous. So, it becomes a greater inconvenience
for the "targeted audience" than postal junk mail (although easier on
trees...)

I am sure there will be more to follow from others...:)

My question is due to my newbie-ness when it comes to spam (other than being
the unfortunate receiver of such). What exactly is the problem with spam
through an ISP (with Earthlink as an example)? Is it that people are
fraudulently using it to send spam? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid
question!
