form-to-email script

We are using cgiemail for one client, instead of formmail, because a
formatted email is required.

Alas, if a field is required and the user does not put something in it,
instead of a warning about this, the user gets a "page not found"
message.  There seems to be nothing at the cgiemail home page on the
subject.

Does anyone else use this script?  Can anyone recommend a replacement?
It must run on FreeBSD/Apache.  Many thanks!
