if the person disconnects then reconnects then they may have a different
IP. depends how their ISP works. my computer at home has a dynamic IP.
with proxy servers... same thing. the script would pic up the proxy
server IP. if it wasnt secer like alot are, you could get the IP of the
computer going through the proxy. that would probably be staic. but alot
of companies internal computers may have the same IP addresses.
192.168.44.1 is probably common on an internal network. depends how the
techies like settign them up:)

I'm implementing some poll software.  I want to keep folks from
(more-or-less) stuffing the
ballot box..

One approach (which I believe Slashdot uses) is to capture the user's IP
address and, if someone from the same IP tries to vote, boink them
(nicely!).

My question is, how effective is this if someone's using a service such
as
AOL (or another service), or a proxy, to access the poll?  Will it
"boink"
(say) all AOL users?
