 i used to have zone alarm, and i wasnt happy with it either. it messes
about with your DUN. which it shouldnt.

lockdown is about =A360 ( www.lockdown2000.com )

but, blackIce defender is about =A317. and, it works. but not on a
network. well.. not very well. youll need blackice defender server for
it to work properly on a network. on a network it tends to kick the
network server off your computer. which defeats the point to a network.
ive been using black ice for a while. ive tried to hack my own computer
and couldnt. im not proficient at it, but it prooves that an advanced
novice cant get around black ice. but. a firewall is only 1 step =
towards
stopping hackers. if you get someone and they manage to get you to
install a trojan or something (back orrifice and sub7 are examples of a
trojan), then a firewall (it dpends what one) may not do anything about
it. sub7 can be called anything you want almost. command.com,
command.exe, oooiii.exe. some firewalls only look for file names. not
the code behind them. also... i think you can get sub7 to connect to =
the
hackers/crackers (whoever) computer. that way the intrution isnt
technicly incomming. the initial connection isnt anyway. so a firewall
detecting that .... not sure. depends what firewall you have.
but, i reccomend BlackIce. www.blackice.com or simmilar. something like
that.

Re the concern over this thread. I have cable, and was using Zone
Alarm but while I was happy with it, I became convinced that it
was causing other problems, and uninstalled it. Does anyone have
any suggestions of a good firewall that is similar, preferably
free, but at least not an arm and a leg. While my ISP claims they
have safeguards for cable systems on all the time, I did get
alerts of programs trying to get in when I had Zone Alarm working.
It worries me that now maybe they ARE getting in. Suggestions for
firewalls welcome.
