Without a detailed examination of your web site logs, looking up each and
every IP using "whois", I'd say an accurate count of "non-US" visitors is
nearly impossible.

My web site log analysis tool (Webtrends) attempts to give statistics on US
vs. non-US visitors, but it relies on the top-level domain of the visitor's
domain. Thus, it scores each and every ".com" visitor as coming from the US,
as well as ".gov", ".net", ".org", and ".mil". It only scores a visitor from
outside the US if there is a different "dot", such as ".fr" for France,
".uk" for the United Kingdom, ".ca" for Canada, etc.

As you can see, this is hardly an accurate measure, since many visitors
using ".com" may come from anywhere in the world. And, conversely, there may
be users of non-US domains that actually live in the US.

Having said all that, my logs "show me" that, for September of 2000, only
67% of "user sessions" could be "attributed" to one country or another
(which right away leaves 33% of all sessions that could not be attributed to
ANY country). 62% of user sessions come from the "US", leaving 5% of my
"visitors" as coming from outside the US.

As the above stats should indicate, I don't think they are anything you can
depend on legally.

Hello all,

One of my clients is applying for some liability insurance.  One of the
things the insurer wants to know is what % of our page views originate from
outside the U.S. and Canada.

Is there a way to approximate this from the server logs, or some other
mechanism?
