Anchoring a menu bar in javascript

I found a nice menu bar on a script site and I want to modify it slightly so
that the menu stays at the top of the page instead of scrolling down with
the text.  I thought I could just change the position commands from relative
to absolute.  But when I do this the text in the menu bar disappears.
Anyone know the trick so that I can anchor the menu bar at the top and still
see it?
