Quick Listing in Search Engines!!??

Dear Friends,

I have heard a lot of people saying that his or her site has got listed in 
48 hours. What I would like to know is how is that possible??????? When I 
was using geocities my sites took over a month to get listed in the search 
engines. Recently I bought my own domain http://www.tigers-den.net and I 
registered my site manually to all the major search engines on the net (took 
me little over 2 hours) and yet I am still not listed in any one of them (I 
registered my site 2 to 3 week�s back). Why is that so????????

Is there something wrong with my meta tags or is there something wrong with 
the way I am going about registering my site???????? Why is it taking 
forever to get listed???
