Apache is among the free Web servers, and a very good one.

PWS is hardly free, you pay Microsoft for its use. True, you don't need to
pay extra, but you do need to pay for Windows for that computer in order to
use it. 

The price of computers has gone down, while their power has gone up
phenomenally. The price of hard drives has gone down substantially, while
their size and performance has increased substantially. The price of main
memory has also gone down, while the size has gone up phenomenally. 

However, the price of the operating system has not gone down, and in fact
the system resources it demands have gone up considerably. This one area of
monopoly control shows the opposite trend as all the competitive aspects of
the industry.

Ergo, the difference between something free (such as LINUX and Apache) and
something monopoly priced, IMHO is worth noting.
