I like to think that this is one area/forum that we can all come to and b=
e
safe from all the spam and other mischief that are prevalent on the net.
My own personal ploicy is that any such attempts to spam me ensure that I=
will
specifically boycott the product or service in question. Even if I need t=
hat
service or product.
Perhaps if everyone on the net did that, it would take away the incentive=
to
resort to such methods.
However, the spam gurus keep expounding the virtues of email marketing as=
a
low-cost, effective promotion tool.
And as long as spammers get a response to even 1% of all the people they =
spam,
the practice will continue to occur. Since that is the typical response =
rate
they get anyway.
They know they are wrong, unlike this case where the sender can be traced=
, and
the subject header is clear. Many emails have subjects totally unrelated =
to
the contents, or contents that try to lead you to believe that it was
misdirected email. And the proliferation of relay software proves they k=
now
this, else why would they need to hide the origins of the spam?
Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine. I have several email accounts used for
various purposes, and most everyone are spammed to some degree. It's a bi=
g
time waster to have to go through over 120 emails everyday to see which o=
nes
are spam, and which ones are really important.
This post could have been called, "OT: Is Spam a respectable or legitimat=
e
form of promotion and marketing?" Hehe! :)
