LETTER OF AUTHORIZATION - FAX FORM INSTRUCTIONS
Authorization to Modify Domain Name Registration
The letter of authorization should have the following
information:
A. Authorization
Under normal circumstances, the administrative or
technical contact for
a domain name registration should be able to approve
or disapprove
modification requests via e-mail.
Outside of normal circumstances, Network Solutions
requires a faxed
letter of authorization from the registrant. (To
delete a PAID domain
name
registration, a faxed letter of authorization from the
registrant is
always required. There are no exceptions to this
rule.) Faxed
authorization
letters must be submitted on the registrant's
letterhead*. The
registrant
is the organization listed at the top of the domain
name registration
record
in Network Solutions' database. Search the database
for your domain
name
registration record at www.networksolutions.com.
For example: Network Solutions, Inc.
(NETWORKSOLUTIONS5-DOM)
505 Huntmar Park Drive
Herndon, VA 20170
Domain Name: NETWORKSOLUTIONS.COM
In the above example, the registrant for
NETWORKSOLUTIONS.COM is
Network
Solutions, Inc. located at 505 Huntmar Park Drive,
Herndon, VA 20170.
A
letter of authorization to modify NETWORKSOLUTIONS.COM
must be
submitted on
Network Solutions, Inc. letterhead.
* If the registrant is an individual (not an
organization) and
letterhead is not applicable, please include in
your fax
transmission a
copy of the registrant's personal identification
(i.e., driver's
license, passport, military ID, university ID,
etc.). If necessary,
also include a copy of a utility bill or phone
bill to establish
the
registrant's address as stated in our database.
If the organization has moved, we would prefer "old"
letterhead, when
possible, reflecting the postal address as stated in
our database.
Otherwise, a statement that the organization has moved
from <old
address> to <new address> should be included.
B. Reference
You must reference the domain name(s) whose
registrations you wish to
modify. Additionally, you must include in your letter
our
"NIC-tracking
number" (e.g., NIC-980512.a12d4) found in the subject
line of our
e-mail
reply to the sender of each Service Agreement
submitted
to HOSTMASTER(at)NETWORKSOLUTIONS.COM.
C. Approval
An individual with the authority to legally bind the
registrant must
sign
the letter. Generally, this would include an officer
of the
registrant's organization such as the Owner, Chief
Executive Officer,
Chief
Financial Officer, Chief Operations Officer,
President, Senior Vice
President, Vice President, Director, General Manager,
General Partner,
Managing Director, Sole Proprietor and Treasurer**.
Signatures of individuals with these titles will
normally be recognized
as authoritative. If the signor has a different title
and is indeed
authorized to legally bind the registrant, then a
statement to that
effect is required.
Along with the authorized signature and title**, we
require a printed
name, telephone number and/or e-mail address of the
signor in case we
need to contact him or her.
** If the registrant is an individual (not an
organization) and a title
is not applicable, please type "Individual " on the
title line.
This authorization letter, together with the Domain
Name Registration
Agreement, is only for modifications to domain name
registration
records. There are 4 kinds of data that may be
modified in an
existing domain name record. Use this form to:
1. Update the registrant's address if the registrant
has moved or if
the postal address contains an error. (This does not
include a change
to the address for any of the existing contacts, which
would require
submission of a completed Contact Form and requires
personal
authorization by the individual contact. Contact
address changes are
not
considered a modification of the domain name record
but rather a
modification of the contact's own personal record.)
2. Remove the existing Administrative, Technical or
Billing contact,
and
replace that contact with a different individual or
role, (e.g., Jane
Smith
is no longer employed by the organization and now John
Doe will assume
her
responsibilities). Again, this does not include
changes required on an
existing contact's own record. If Jane Smith needs to
update our
records to
reflect her new email address, Jane will need to
complete a Contact
Form
instead of the Service Agreement.
3. Indicate that you no longer need or desire the
domain name. Use
this
form, along with the Service Agreement, advising
Network
Solutions that you wish to cancel the paid
registration and delete the
complete domain name record.
Note: Registration and renewal fees are
non-refundable.
4. "Change or switch ISPs." When a registrant desires
to cancel the
services
provided by its current Internet Service Provider
(ISP) and set up new
services with a different ISP, Network Solutions calls
this "switching
ISPs." At a minimum, this includes replacing the old
ISP's "machines"
(called nameservers) with nameservers at the new ISP,
and may also
include
changing the Technical contact on the domain name
record (it is common
for
the Technical contact to be an employee of the ISP).
The
Administrative
or Billing contact should also be replaced if either
represent the old
ISP.
The Service Agreement should NOT be used if you are
the owner of a
nameserver that exists as a record in our database and
wish to
modify either the IP number or hostname associated
with your machine.
For
this type of request, please complete and submit the
Host Form located
on
our Web site at www.networksolutions.com.
