Mmm. I have never done that! And my pages have always worked beautifully in IE and NN. So can you please tell me what kind of code should be inserted?? At the moment the document has:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
But i never keep the above meta tag in the final version of my pages.

Mmmm. It's Fireworks 4 and Dreamweaver 4 that have been used. 

Also i have used Javascript on many occassions (downloaded from the net) without the type attribute being mentioned and it always worked! Then how come now it isn't?
