Java Applets

I am just learning HTML coding and am having a problem inserting Java
applets on my pages.  I have downloaded an applet for a game, 6 or 7 files
with the extension ".cla".  To insert the applet on my page, do I need to
include each of these files in the "<applet code="xxx.cla"></applet> tags,
do I use ".class" as extension instead of ".cla"?  When I try to view the
page I have written in a browser, I don't get anything.  A message appears
in the lower taskbar stating "unable to load java applet(with the applet name)

Any help on this would be appreciated.
