RE: User connected ...by Zachary Johnson <zachary(at)zacharyjohnson.com> |

Possibly, but the one major problem with that argument lies in the regularity of the hits. Mike mentioned that the hits occur every 5 minuted, 24 hours a day. If indeed this we someone who had their homepage set to Mike's client homepage, the intervals between hits would be irregular. For example, the first hit might come at 3:03 PM, the next at 4:25 PM, then 7:01 AM. Not to mention, the hit patterns would follow human activity patterns, so activity would drop off after midnight until seven in the morning or so. You would also get a fairly clear idea of whether the page requestor was working from their worksite or home. If they were updating from work, the requests would plateau during their local work hours, then drop off afterward. Similarly, if they were working from home, the requests would drop off during the workday, and peak afterhours. So...I don't think the homepage theory works. I fascinating problem for sure. Zack PS> FWIW, I agree with the various "bot" theories. It's surely a monitoring service someone (i.e. the consumer rights group) set up to keep tabs on the server.
