onChange repopulating select box info?

I'm pretty sure there is a way to do this wihtout having to reload the
whole page, but the procedure alludes me..

Picture just two seperate drop down select boxes on a page.
What I want to be able to do is when a particular value is selected
from one select box, I want it to repopulate the other values in the
other select box.

For example in one select box the user can choose from 
cats,dogs,horses. He chooses dogs..
this in turn will now cause the other select box to have only options
of dogs to pick from. If he chooses horses in the other select box, it
changes the other box to have a list of horses to select.

Any examples of this being done?
