I suspect it's more related to the length of the image. If 
the 2298 px long image is printed to a printer using 
300dpi, it's a bit over 7" long. But the newer browsers 
may be mapping the pixels different, e.g, maybe they 
use 100 dpi. If so, that makes the resulting print over 22" 
long - far too long for most printers to put on one page. 
Seeing that, the browsers may quite sensibly not even 
be trying to print it.
