Here are actual measurements of available window 
space (within the browser window). I made these on our 
standard Windows98SE installations, 800x600, each 
browser using installation defaults, each browser 
maximized. There are at least 1000+ users here with 
settings like these.

IE 5.5 - 776 px wide, 414 px high

NS 4.7 - 776 px wide, 404 px high.

The IE measurement is without the History tab area 
showing.

Our Macs - another 1500 or so machines - use 
1024x768 resolution. I didn't do any screen captures or 
measurements for Macs.
