Don't be so rigid about the "right" way. When learning, 
there is no "right" way. So far, my experience with kids 
is they learn best when they're free to explore and try 
things out, with someone experienced around to help 
them understand when they need it.

I'd let the kids do the site design - far more educational 
than simply sticking content into templates!
