An HTML newsletter is just a webpage that gets mailed to people.
Clear and simple.
I believe all that needs to be done is that the newsletter is
created/organized/laided out as it were via HTML then that code
is then pasted into an email program that supports said code,
and the clients email program should also be able to support said
code, such programs as Outlook Express and Eudora do this.
It should be duly noted however that graphics in said newsletters
are a blinking pain in the butt. As they require you to be connected
for them to load.
Meaning client goes online, downloads all email, goes offline to
read email comes upon your HTML newsletter with graphics and
up pops the dial up connector, which may or may not startle the
client as they may think they have a virus.
If said connection is canceled, the dial up will again ask permission
to connect, this is done for EVERY graphic until it has run through
all the html code, for which case the client will now have a nicely
laid out newsletter complete with broken image icons.
Now after all that is said and done you may think I hate HTML email,
actually quite the contrary because I know what to expect to happen
and don't really mind all that much I only mention it here to provide as
much information on this for you as possible concerning my experience
with it.
Now this most likely doesn't answer all your questions but hopefully
will at least give you a start as to what to look forward to.
A good example of this would be to check out and join Infobeat for
a week or so (http://www.infobeat.com) and see what happens
when reading the email first while disconnected from the net and
then letting it connect.
