Yes, John, that's one way to do this--remove the period of course (that's
there to keep some e-mailers from trying to interpret the code -- and use
the full name of the file: file.html, for example.
This will work on Apache servers if you want to use Server Side Includes.
You will want to check with your host as far as SSIs. There are also some
good links, instructions in the HWG archives since it was folks on the HWG
lists that helped me do it. Look for SSI, Server Side Include, include
files, etc.
But, you don't necessarily have to use SSI -- if you have php or asp or
something, then you can probably do it within those computer languages.
Again, check with your web site host and see what they recommend. My host
allows me to add some directions and run SSI pages as html, others won't
let you do that and you would have to rename the pages to shtml or shtm
(depending on your preference.
My host also offers php, so I use that language to include files. Once you
start doing it, you won't want to do it any other way!
