It really depends for which people your site is destinated and of the
category of your site .
30/40 ko seems a correct size if including pictures ...
don't forget to use css to avoid thousand of <font> tag ...
and use a html compressor (Uncompress,Shinkrit or the codesweeper in
Homesite) to erase useless tags and spaces ...
and of course reduce your pictures more as possible
