Hey, all! ;-)
Hope someone out there in Techniques-land has some solutions/suggestions
that have eluded me thus far.
Have a client whose site is on one server and his shopping cart application
(ready built, all he had to do was customize) with another company. To
date this has worked fine - he just linked from the front-end
informational/marketing site to the store with all the bells & whistles for
online shopping.
Here is the logistics: Banners on various outside sites, main site on
server 2, shopping cart application is on server 3.
They now want us to come up with a solution that will have the ability that
when a link or a banner is clicked on from an outside site to be able to
track that exact click-thru all the way to if an order is placed so that
they can then have "revenue sharing" with the sites that have the
banner/link. Doesn't want to spend the $$$ for a Linkshare Affiliate
program because there are not guarantees. But then says if Amazon can do
it why can't he...... I know, that's another thread. ;-)
I believe the fact that since the cart system is on a third party server
that really is not in our complete control (other than to customize
functionality and options) that this would implausible. <?> Anyone been
there, done this? Bottom line is to be able to track from the banner/link
click to the placement of an order.
Any suggestions, programs or pointers in the right direction would be most
appreciated! ;-)
TIA!
