Seems to me the important factor would be - getting 
the colors right. Equipping the artist with a quality 
digital camera such as a Sony P-series or Canon 
Powershot series and taking the photos him/herself 
may be all that's needed.

Whatever you do, if you're doing the color correction, 
figure on lots of back-and-forth sessions with the artist - 
put up the picture, find out what's wrong, change it, find 
out what's wrong, etc, etc. If your photo retouching 
software supports is, use the sRGB color profile, it 
produces the best color on screen. (Won't necessarily 
look good in print, but we're talking about screen 
display here.)
