I've been using XHTML ever since the standard was released by the W3C, 
Mozilla for the last nine months, and all betas of Netscape 6.

I have not seen the problem you report ... unless it is this:  I have found 
that Mozilla / Netscape 6 often adds a vertical gap, and that when this 
happens, a work-around is to set the font size to 1px using CSS.  For 
example, when the page has a header made up of graphics enclosed in a 
table, the gap appears after the table.  Setting the font size to 1px in 
the TR style fixes this.
