One Mac user reported that when they tried to enter their username and
password to log in to their TracerLock account at
http://www.tracerlock.com/ , it worked when they used Netscape 4.x, but not
IE 5.x. I changed the form method from "POST" to "GET" so they could copy
down the URL of the failed login and mail it to me, and it turned out that
they were getting:
http://www.tracerlock.com/login.cgi?username=bennett++&password=xxxxxxx
(In the URL above, I have replaced their seven-character username with my
own seven-character username, "bennett", and replaced their seven-character
password with "xxxxxxx".) As the URL indicates, IE added an extra two
spaces onto the end of their username, which is why the server rejected it
as invalid.
Is this a known issue with IE for the Mac? The only other thing that I can
think of is that they might have AutoComplete turned on for forms, and
maybe at one point they typed in "bennett " (with the two trailing spaces)
for their username, and now IE adds them in automatically whenever they go
back to that page.
