The basic[1] difference between the strict and transitional favours is the
latter does use deprecated elements whereas the former doesn't.

XHTML is a reformulation of HTML 4.01 in XML. You should also read
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/#diffs for the differences.

[1] There is one non deprecated element absent from the Strict flavor -
IFRAME. The related non-deprecated attributes are also absent.
