Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry about Verisign locking me into
their services within 30 or 60 days prior to my domain expiring.
After reading all the emails, I've come to the conclusion that I was wrong
about this. I probably had the facts mixed up with not being able to
transfer your domain 30 or 60 days AFTER renewal.
So I took most peoples advice to just go ahead and try to transfer my
domain anyway - and it worked. It took one day. Yesterday I signed up
with DirectNIC.com and asked for a domain transfer from Verisign. After a
couple of verification emails from both Verisign and DirectNIC, today I
received a very polite email from Verisign saying that the transfer was
approved and they were sorry to see me go.
Again, thanks to all for your input. Now I can put the Maalox away as you
all saved me a lot of heartburn.
