It appears to be a long-standing problem with the 
software/servers/connections/you-name-it that HWG uses for its mailing 
lists.  Out of the 40 or so mailing lists to which I belong, *only* the HWG 
lists are slow.  All my other lists have responses times of less than five 
to ten minutes.
