Netscape 4.7 and tables.

Hello,

Please help me understand why this page looks so terrible in NN 4.7/Mac?
This look great in NN6.0 and IE.  Is it possible to fix?

Embedded tables are on a black background.
<.body bgcolor="black">

The first table is one cell whose background is the image of a book:
<.td background="vCbkgd47c.jpg">.

The embedded table, which lists autographs found in the book,
sets the background of each table cell to white:
<.td bgcolor="white">.
